Maxercise: Lorraine Kelly and Maxine Jones put our FFEM participants through their paces!

Last week participants from our FFEM (Female, Fitness, Education and Motivation) programme at Chestnut Grove were rewarded with a trip to East London where they were put through their paces by TV presenter Lorraine Kelly and fitness guru Maxine Jones.

The FFEM participants were joined by a class of over 70 other women for an hour long dance which was a hugely empowering experience. Having been invited by Lorraine Kelly, who is a regular of the class, the girls engaged in a real workout which was not only physically but also socially enriching. The event was covered on snapchat check out the clip below and add us – FBBorders.

FFEM Project Lead Karena said “It was amazing to see a room packed full of women of all ages, shapes and backgrounds just enjoying a fun class. It really warmed my heart to see how the others quickly took to our girls and helped them feel at home. I think if we have more of this in our local communities young girls would be more willing to participate in activities; and stick at them!”

India, FFEM participant and Chestnut Grove Academy student, stated “It was fun, energetic and a little bit tiring but I enjoyed it. I have never done anything like this before but would recommend it! My mum really likes Lorraine so it was great to meet her. She was so nice and had lots of good advice for us. She told us to be ourselves!”

Lorraine Kelly had the following inspirational message for the girls: “Follow your own path, don’t be dissuaded by others and let them tell you what you can and can’t be. Be true to yourselves, you are all gorgeous inside and out.”

Lorraine and Maxine have agreed to come down to one of our sessions at the Chestnut Grove academy in the Spring and the girls look forward to showing off their skills!
