Her stories: You can’t write our stories for us

This book is the moment for teenage girls to reclaim their narratives, centre themselves and present their stories to the world, in their terms. It is their worlds in their voices, accompanied by the women who have played integral roles in their lives. It is the story of their relationships, and of shared womanhood that cuts across two or three generations. It is the story of joy, love and courage, and of hurt, loss and anger. It is the complexity of experiences that cannot be subsumed into a single story.

As you read this book, we hope you are filled with optimism at the multitude of stories of the girls and the women featured alongside them. It is a reminder to all of us to pass the mic, and then crucially, to listen. It is only by allowing teenage girls to control their own narratives that we will begin to understand the realities of their worlds.

WHY SHOULD YOU SUPPORT FBB?

Football Beyond Borders is an award-winning charity that supports young people from disadvantaged backgrounds who are passionate about football but disengaged at school.

For us, the power of the relationships our young people have with friends and teachers shines through; together with the realisation that so much of their personal growth as individuals takes place inside the classrooms and playgrounds.

At a time when the demand for our work is greater than ever, young people need more support. The publication of the book launches a national campaign to highlight why children missing school is a critical issue for society.
