Volunteering with FBB: Football Heroes Author Matthew Oldfield

Football Beyond Borders have been delivering their FBB Schools programme at St John’s Angell Town Primary School since September 2016. The aim of the programme is to improve behaviour in schools and highlight the importance of teamwork. Football Heroes Author, Matt Oldfield has been volunteering on the programme for 5 weeks. We are using his books about footballing heroes including the likes of Aguero, Gerrard and Ibrahimovich, in line with our literacy curriculum.

Matt Oldfield (pictured above) said “Having written these books, it’s so nice to now spend time with the people who really matter – the readers. I’m loving my first FBB experience. The kids at St John’s Angell Town are so enthusiastic, and they ask the best questions I’ve ever heard! The FBB guys have put together a brilliant project called ‘My Heroes and Me’ and I can’t wait to see the final work.”

FBB Head of Operations Jack Reynolds said “We’ve been incredibly fortunate to have Matt working with us. Our participants have been really excited to have the author of these books in our sessions. It’s really helped with engagement and has allowed them to ask a lot of follow up questions around the reading they have done.”
