Adam and Charlie will be running the Southampton Half Marathon in an attempt to raise as much money as possible for FBB – already they have raised £295 and counting! They are part of a group of students at the University of Southampton who have set up the 1st ever FBB university students society, thus taking the 1st big step towards spreading FBB across the country. Here they write a blog about why they wanted to run a marathon for FBB!
“We found out about Football Beyond Borders from our friend at Southampton University Kelvyn Quagraine (an FBB youth leader), he told us that he was interested in setting up a society at Southampton with the aim of establishing the charity outside of London. When Kelvyn was explaining to us exactly what the charity does to help young people it made us realise how difficult it would have been to stay motivated and achieve our best at school had we not been lucky enough to have the required support. We believe that FBB provides a way to help young people utilise their talents and abilities.
By taking the love of football and using it to engage and inspire students we believe the model used by FBB is something that many young people across the country should be able to benefit from. Learning about FBB has inspired us to tackle a half marathon in an attempt to raise as much money as possible and do our small part in helping the charity continue to expand on the fantastic work it is doing. The response so far has been amazing, in less than a week we surpassed doubled our original target, and although the training is difficult, the overwhelming response has made it more than worthwhile.”
