On the first week back at school this year, two of our youngest FBB Schools participants Geele and Bruno headed up to Manchester for a very special FBB TV interview with Premier League star Yaya Toure.
The 10 year olds got to sit in the Manchester City dugout, putting Yaya Toure on the spot and asking about his career and life outside football – City’s new signings, his favourite player, the importance of education in fighting racism and his work as a UNEP goodwill ambassador promoting elephant protection. Yaya even agreed to a request from the youngsters to “sign for FBB” – yet another top Premier League signing for FBB in 2015 after those of Santi Cazorla and Yannick “Yala” Bolasie … Not a bad midfield that!
Yaya was particularly keen to impress on the youngsters the importance of education, stating: “as a person it is important to be well educated…with education anything is possible.”
It was a memorable experience for the young FBB participants, as their teacher Heath Vennus commented: “Special thanks to Football Beyond Borders for giving two of our students the opportunity to travel to Manchester’s Etihad Stadium to meet and interview Yaya Toure. The whole process was a fantastic life experience for our boys while giving them a unique insight into a very professional media production. I am sure the occasion will live long in their memories and prove to be an inspiration they will draw on further throughout their education.”
Big thanks to Sandringham Primary School for letting Bruno and Geele come to Manchester for this special occasion!
