This February, we will be running a £7,500 crowdfunding campaign to set up and run FBB TV, an ambitious youth-led YouTube channel. FBB TV will provide an inclusive platform for young participants from our programmes to film, produce and star in their own videos, with experienced industry professionals supporting them as co-producers and mentors.
Football Beyond Borders founder Jasper Kain said: “FBB TV will develop the potential of the next generation of pundits, presenters and producers by bringing together household names in football with budding young talents. As an aspiring film-maker myself I was lucky enough to have access to key networks and guidance to get a foothold in the profession. FBB TV will provide a more inclusive platform for young people from all backgrounds to learn these valuable skills and develop their talent.”
Each show will feature big names in the world of football being interviewed by Football Beyond Borders youth participants. Thanks to support from the renowned YouTube channel Copa90 and FBB patron, Sky Sports reporter Guillem Balague, the organisation have filmed a pilot show that we will be launched alongside a crowdfunding campaign on JustGiving.
The pilot show, presented by four Year 8 pupils from the charity’s FBB Schools programme, features interviews with Guillem Balague and legendary England Women’s footballer Rachel Yankey as well as video from Football Beyond Borders projects.
FBB TV will train young FBB participants aged 11-25 to produce video and other multimedia content, resulting in fresh and engaging content with a youth focus. Participants will also be trained in transferable skills they can take into the workplace.
Working with young people from mostly BME backgrounds, the programme will take practical steps to tackle the lack of diversity in the media, whilst also giving these young people a platform to make their voices heard. The crowdfunder campaign will harness the power of the crowd to make a real difference to youth from some of London’s most marginalised areas.
Sky Sports Presenter Guillem Balague said: “FBB TV is a brilliant idea and it was a real pleasure to be interviewed by an immensely talented 12 year old in the first show! I have interviewed some of the biggest names in football myself, from Lionel Messi to Cesc Fabregas and I know that developing the craft takes hours of practice and determination. FBB TV provides the perfect platform for young people to hone these skills and develop as human beings.”
