Football Beyond Borders’ has officially launched a new crowdfunding project to help raise funds to transform the organisations’ Angell Town Estate into a state of the art learning hub for the local community.
Having completed relocation to the site, FBB is currently in the process of getting the space ready to serve as a fully functioning youth centre for the local community. With almost 90 youth centres having being closed down in London since 2011 alone, this space will be a vital space of community activity and learning.
Through its design, the space will support FBB’s project-based approach, encouraging creativity and collaboration, while providing a home for all the exciting projects young people are involved with.
In total, FBB is aiming to raise just over £15,000 to get the site fit for purpose. The crowdfunding page went live earlier today, and had already raised over £4,000 in the first few hours alone. With the money raised, FBB will create an innovative learning hub which will have cutting edge media equipment, changing rooms, a workshop space, study area and a respite zone.
A £25 donation will go towards purchasing resources from a projector to a printer as well as kitting out a state of the art media suite with microphones, cameras, and editing software.
FBB’s Fundraising and Female Participation Coordinator Rebekah Keane, who will be leading on the crowdfunding campaign to help equip the learning hub, noted the particular importance of spaces like this for young people from lower-income families. “The challenges facing our youth in London are wide-ranging and many. In our wonderful city, young people are often bereft of spaces to call their own. They suffer from a severe drop of stimulation during the school holidays and they lack access to cutting-edge technologies needed to make their voices heard.”
She explained: “Opening this hub will provide FBB with the opportunity to engage with and reach as many young people as possible. Enabling us to support and encourage hundreds of disadvantaged students to reach their potential throughout the year.”
