Ryley

“FBB has helped me with my mental health. It had got to a stage where i was having suicidal thoughts and Antar got me the help I needed to get out of that space. He was there for me and helped me improve my behaviour in school. He made sure he was on my back with my behaviour but also always supported me when I needed help. I have also improved my ability to play with a team more with my football which has improved my ability on and off the pitch.”

Which year group are you in?

9

How long have you been a part of FBB?

1 year

Describe yourself in 3 words?

Funny, cheeky, and confident.

How would your teachers describe you in 3 words?

Funny, cheeky, and smart.

What are your passions/hobbies?

Football:

I was brought up around a love for the game. I use it as a way to get away from anything that’s making me upset or annoyed. I’ve been playing football since I was 3 years old. I love playing with a smile on my face and just try to keep improving. I would say I play like Phil Foden because he’s got a good range of passing ability and likes to attack. When I get the ball I like to run with it and play with freedom.

Rollerskating:

When I was younger I started getting into rollerskating. I went there for a day out with my family and worked hard to get good at it ever since. Nowadays, I do it every so often. It’s a nice change from football and gives me another sport to get into in my free time.

What are some of the challenges you’ve faced before FBB?

I struggled with some family issues which massively affected my time at school. I would usually get frustrated and upset in class and take my frustrations out on my teachers. I was 1 inch from getting kicked out of school fully so i knew something needed to change. Some days I would stay out with my friends until 10 at night and I wouldn't even have called my mum to tell her I was staying out that late.

How has FBB helped you to overcome those challenges?

FBB has helped me with my mental health. It had got to a stage where i was having suicidal thoughts and Antar got me the help I needed to get out of that space. He was there for me and helped me improve my behaviour in school. He made sure he was on my back with my behaviour but also always supported me when I needed help. I have also improved my ability to play with a team more with my football which has improved my ability on and off the pitch.

What has been your favourite experience with FBB so far?

My favourite experience with FBB has been Woodrow, it was sick. I got to meet so many new people and played with all my friends regularly. It was a new experience for me to play with different people I didn't know and I learned to be more confident about speaking to people I didn't already know.

What do you hope to do in the future?

I want to encourage youngsters to go and find their own paths. To not get involved with the wrong crowds and make sure they turn their dreams into realities. I want to be a FBB coach like Antar.

Quote from FBB Project Lead

"Ryley has been a pleasure to work with. I have loved watching him develop this year and engage with all the FBB Programmes. He has been consistently open with all FBB staff and is always looking for the next opportunity."

Quote from your link teacher

Ryley has shown a lot of growth this year in his confidence. He is also now more and more open to working with a range of staff.
