Isabel

“Since I started FBB, I’ve learnt so much more self-control and self-belief. FBB has changed my view on things – I know now that I can walk away from a tough situation and calm myself down. The FBB sessions are great because we get to reflect on the tough things we are going through and support each other. We also watch clips of inspiring women and these give us something to aim for and help us learn to improve our own behaviour. Our FBB coaches are very supportive, caring and kind. Every time you go into a session, they are really welcoming. They made me feel wanted – I was scared that I wouldn’t fit in, but they changed how I felt about myself.”

Which year group are you in?

9

How long have you been a part of FBB?

1 year

Describe yourself in 3 words?

Confident, Funny, and Bubbly.

How would your teachers describe you in 3 words?

Loud, Hard-Working, and Popular.

What are your passions/hobbies?

I like football - both playing and watching. I’ve supported Crystal Palace my whole life. I started playing about two years ago - my brother has always played so he was a good influence. I love football because it takes my mind off everything and helps me play my troubles away.
I like dance because again it takes your mind off things and helps me to feel free.

What are some of the challenges you’ve faced before FBB?

Before I started FBB, if I was angry I wouldn’t be able to control it. I also used to face a lot of challenges at school - getting into arguments with people in my year.

How has FBB helped you to overcome those challenges?

Since I started FBB, I’ve learnt so much more self-control and self-belief. They made me feel wanted – I was scared that I wouldn’t fit in, but they changed how I felt about myself.

What has been your favourite experience with FBB so far?

The FBB Nike event was so good. We learnt to create an advert together. We had to get into groups with people we’d never met before which was a bit scary at first but once we get to know them it was fun. We were all given different roles - I had to come up with the creative ideas for the advert and also direct it. I had never really done anything like that but I really enjoyed it - that gave me confidence and made me want to try new things.

What do you hope to do in the future?

I would like to become a criminologist. I think it’s a really cool job and I think it would be exciting to go into work every day with a new problem to solve. I watch this programme called Luther and it got me thinking about a career in criminology. FBB makes me believe that girls can do anything that boys can do and I genuinely believe that I can do anything if I work hard enough for it.

Quote from FBB Project Lead

"Isabel's passion for football has been developed and celebrated enormously through FBB. This has allowed her to find her voice within the year group. By building positive relationships with her coaches, Isabel has developed processes to manage her emotions and contribute positively in school."

Quote from your link teacher

"Since joining FBB Isabel has become a far happier girl, she has a place where she can express herself and follow her passion of being a Crystal Palace fan. We can tell that she believes more in herself now because of the things she has achieved with FBB."
