Agalya

“I just love FBB – I look forward to it every Friday! As soon as I got involved with FBB, I felt my confidence improve. My coaches Ceylon and Debra have been amazing. If anyone asks you a question, you want to at least try, even if you get it wrong. Now I’m ready to share my feelings and thoughts with the group and if it’s personal things I can share them with my coaches because I’m sure they would help me and understand me. It’s definitely helped me with my behaviour in school – because now that I contribute more in class I get more achievement points and get to go on more trips.”

Which year group are you in?

9

How long have you been a part of FBB?

1 year

Describe yourself in 3 words?

Teamwork, Leadership, Resilience - I try and live the FBB values in my day-to-day life.

How would your teachers describe you in 3 words?

Hard-Working, Talented, and Goal-Achieving.

What are your passions/hobbies?

I’m a sporty person, I like football, basketball, netball, volleyball, cricket, rounders - you name it! I think I’m good at sports and I enjoy the challenge of setting goals for myself and achieving them. I like beating my own records.

What are some of the challenges you’ve faced before FBB?

I used to be really shy. In class if we were reading a book, I would never want to read. If the teacher picked me, I would read quietly because I was scared.

How has FBB helped you to overcome those challenges?

I just love FBB - I look forward to it every Friday! It’s definitely helped me with my behaviour in school - because now that I contribute more in class I get more achievement points and get to go on more trips.

What has been your favourite experience with FBB so far?

I really loved the Knole Park trip - we spent the whole day there in the countryside. I’d never been to anywhere like that before. We saw deers, trees, cows - it was amazing. We’re going to make an exhibition about the pictures we took in the park. We talked about how technology is distracting us from nature and how humans are destroying nature, like people driving cars so much is causing climate change more. It’s great to be able to learn about things and reflect on them - now I even to talk to school to do my bit.

What do you hope to do in the future?

I want to help women to have equal pay to men. It’s crazy that men’s players earn so much more than female players. Even if you type football on google - it only really shows pictures of male footballers. I want this to change.

Quote from FBB Project Lead

"Agalya's confidence has grown enormously in FBB and school. By celebrating her achievements in and outside of the classroom, she has developed a strong sense of self and is no longer afraid to make her voice heard."

Quote from your link teacher

"It is great to see Agalya being part of FBB. She has always been very sporty and now she has somewhere she can embrace that side of her."
